Farewell Xanga...until next time (if there'll ever be one), adieu.
Join me at my new blog. | | |
| Well, I've moved in. So far UC Irvine is pretty cool. Since mostly Nor Cal people read my blog, I'll give y'all a lil' info on UC Irvine. "UCI is ranked as the 10th best public univeristy in U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings." The mascot of UC Irvine is the anteater, heh. Why? "The anteater was inspired by the the Johnny Hart cartoon character 'Peter' in B.C. Based on its 'originality, uniqueness and relevance to UC',...the weird-looking beast won 56 percent of the vote in a 1965 election. In the B.C. comics, the anteater's tongue, when striking its prey, made a resounding noise, 'ZOT!'--now the fearsome UCI Anteaters' unique war cry!" heh..
So yea, the name of my dorm is Prado, the "haunted hall" and fine arts dorm. Today there was free lunch and I had a chance to check out a whole bunch of clubs/organizations. I must've talked to people from over 10 different fellowships. Hecka tight. There's an Interfellowship Kickoff where Asian American Christian Fellowship, Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity, Navigators, and The Edge all meet together for a time of worship and fellowship. Awesome. I randomly ran into Travis and Brent today, hecka cool. Thanks for praying for me y'all. God truly provides.
| WOW. It's a been a while since I blogged. This Friday, I leave for UC Irvine. I am so not ready.
On the "physical" level, currently, I have not packed anything. At all. I've made a list, but haven't packed any of my stuff away. Emotionally, I still feel empty. I feel like I need to say some goodbyes and tie up loose ends with people. And spiritually, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fare.
I could really use some prayer now.
On the plus side, I met my room mate on Monday. He's a theater major and lives in Folsom. He seems like a cool guy. And he's Christian.
Giving my life completely to God is so hard. Hmm. Hebrews 11:6 says.. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Truly believing that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him is pretty tough. If I believed whole heartedly that that God rewards people who seek Him, then following Jesus would seem so much easier. Hmm. But of course, it's not just about the reward.
Gotta earnestly seek God.

Adieu. | | |
| On Friday, April 22nd, I nearly died. Literally.
I was in a bit of rush to go to the Guild Theatre, where CB's spring musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, is being performed. I was running late to get to the theatre for orchestra practice and was driving a bit too fast. (Edit: The roads were a little slick from the rain.) I just got on the freeway from the Pocket/Meadowview on-ramp, going I-5 North and almost as soon as I got on the freeway, I lost complete control of my car. My truck turned sharply to the right, so I turned the wheel to the left in attempt to straighten out the car. Yet I ended up swerving radically to the fast lane. Before I knew it, my truck turned violently to the right after a big rig hit me from behind, and I continued to spin clock-wise. Immediately after getting hit by the 18-wheeler, it zoomed right in front of me while my car was perpendicular to the freeway. After all the violent spinning, I ended up on the side on the right shoulder, not even aware that I got hit by the 18-wheeler until I got out of the car and realized by tail gate was missing. A police officer promptly came, and I gave him the various information which he asked for. With adrenaline still pumping, I proceeded to drive (yes, in my truck) to opening night of the musical.
I think it's safe to say I "glanced at Death". If the big rig hit me while I was swerving, I would've gotten broadsided and most likely been seriously injured or possibly died.
Surprisingly there wasn't much damage done to the truck. Besides the messed up tail gate which got torn off, the left light only got dislodged, some minor/moderate damge to the back left side, and the the bumper got pushed downwards at a sharp angle.
As for me, I escaped with a mere sore and tense neck (which already feels better).
Funny how just before I got on the freeway, I was thinking how blessed I am...the accident goes to show that I truly am blessed. When I saw the big rig zoom by me, I said "Oh God..." and was thinking "please protect me". God certainly was and is, protecting me.
Our lives are so fragile, and in the grand scheme of things, seem so unimportant. Yet (paradoxically), we should live our lives making the most out of every moment. Hmmm...carpe diem, seize the day. Life your life, which God has created and protected, for Him, and Him alone.
